BACK TO INDEX

The proposal for the refurbishment of this principal street had two fundamental targets; to prioritize the pedestrian use of the boulevard and to transform the street into a new green urban corridor which runs towards the Ciutadella.

In order to make both objectives possible, the project has been developed considering three aspects. First of all,  to guarantee the continuity of the section. Secondly, the urban space was adapted to the different activities and, finally and most importantly to enhance the new green corridor as a means of sustainability.

The new section is symmetrical and the footpaths are wider by 4.5m (from 12,5 m to 17 m).  The existing historic trees remain and a further two rows added. The continuity of the outline is crucial to ensure the functional clarity of the axis along its extension.

Passeig de St Joan has regained its social value as a urban space, while taking into consideration the topical aspects of biodiversity and sustainability.
